United KingdomGlobal people development business, Insights, with headquarters is in Dundee, made the generous donation as they knew their Chief Executive Officer, Fiona Logan, and many other employees had benefitted from a cooling cap machine during their cancer treatments at Ninewells Hospital.
Fiona said, “Like many in our community, I’ve felt the physical, emotional and psychological toll of cancer firsthand. That’s why it means so much to us at Insights to support Ninewells Hospital – helping more people access this life-changing technology when they need it most.”
The cooling cap machine has now been installed in Ward 32, Ninewells Hospital. Following this donation, the ward now has access to four cooling caps, one for each treatment bay.
Ward 32 SACT Coordinator/Educator, Ashley MacLeod said, “We are absolutely delighted to receive a brand new cooling cap machine from Insights.
“Each machine can be used by up to four patients a day and with this generous donation we can now provide treatment for between 8 to 10 people on a daily basis.
“Having these machines in our service is vital to be able to offer and deliver patient-centred care. We are extremely grateful to Insights for their kindness and helping make a real difference for our patients.”

About Cooling Cap machines
Cooling caps can be used to reduce the temperature of a patient’s scalp prior to their chemotherapy treatment. This makes the blood vessels in the scalp smaller and reduces the blood flow to the scalp, which means it can stop some chemotherapy drugs from affecting hair follicles.
